This peptide can specifically inhibit binding of a cell
surface adhesin of Streptococcus mutans, the main
etiological agent of dental caries to salivary receptors in
vitro, prevent recolonization with S.mutans. Thus it differs
from the broad spectrum antimicrobial peptides identified
in a number of animal species.
